Disneyworld

No Orlando vacation is complete without a couple of days at Disney World! The Magic Kingdom is about four short miles from my orlando vacation timeshare rental on International Drive. If you’ve got a Park Hopper Ticket you’ll be able to enjoy many attractions throughout all the Disney parks in the vicinity.

Magic Kingdom Park has imported a show from Tokyo Disneyland called Cinderellabration, depicting Cinderella’s post-“happily ever after” life -— her coronation and the subsequent royal party with a host of the Disney princesses. Epcot gets a little taste of the West with Soarin’, a copy of Disney’s California Adventure Park’s Soarin’ Over California. Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, travels at speeds up to 50 mph, includes an 80-foot drop and even travels backwards. But in true Disney fashion, the focus of the ride is neither speed nor g-force —- it’s a story about the search for the abominable snowman in the Himalayan Mountains.

Universal Studios Orlando

Whereas Disneyworld tends to be more about family fun, Universal Orlando sets itself apart with its extreme rides. If you can, give it two full days while on your Orlando vacation. Whether you're getting into the movie action with experiences such as Men in Black Alien Attack and Back to the Future, or careening at high speeds on roller coasters such as 3-D Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk, and Dueling Dragons, you'll soon discover the unique energy of Universal Studios.

But Universal Studios isn't just for adults and older kids; little kids have plenty to get excited about as well. Take your tots to explore Seuss Landing in Islands of Adventure, Toon LagoonCamp Jurassic.

If you love Disney's Space Mountain, you'll love Universal Studio's answer to the in-the-dark roller coaster, Revenge of the Mummy. Don't forget to indulge in a little “ogrevision” with Shrek 4-D!

You’ll find many deals on Universal Studios tickets around town and on the Internet, and like Disney World the idea is to get you to commit to multiple days (what they call “Flex” tickets). Universal Studios also promotes an Orlando Flex ticket, gaining you entrance not only to Universal and Islands of Adventure but also to SeaWorld, Wet ’n Wild, and Busch Gardens in Tampa.

There is so much to do during your Orlando vacation

Orlando Magicard

The Orlando Visitors Bureau has teamed up with many of these attractions to offer discounted admission through the Orlando Magicard program. Get the most bang for you buck during your Orlando vacation by downloading or ordering a Magicard for free from the Orlando Visitors Bureau Web site visitorlando.com [opens in a new window] or call 1-800-643-9492.

This is right from our owners-only periodical, Destinations:

One thing every visitor learns early on during their Orlando vacation is that the competition for your entertainment dollar is fierce and diverse. Besides the big-named theme parks —- Disney, Universal and SeaWorld -— you’ll find such off-the-beaten-track diversions as Gatorland, Holy Land Experience, Splendid China, Skull Kingdom, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Watermania, Cypress Gardens and Silver Springs. Dinner theaters are also in abundance: Dolly Parton’s Dixieland Stampede includes live animals, singing and dancing; Pirates Dinner Adventure is an audience-participation performance where pirates take their captives aboard their ship; Medieval Times pits armored horsemen against each other in jousts; and the Makahiki Luau at SeaWorld is an authentic import from the Polynesian islands.

However you choose to spend your Orlando vacation, the perfect starting point is at WorldMark Orlando. The WorldMark-owned property in the upscale tourist district of International Drive is managed by the Crowne Plaza Resort and shares common areas with the hotel and Kingstown Reef, a stand-alone timeshare operation. The two WorldMark buildings, Gables and Veranda, have a distinctly tropical feel —- as relaxed and unhurried a location as you can imagine. The units are spacious, with tile entries, paddle fans and wicker furniture lending an old Key West ambiance. The pool area includes a cabana bar and whimsical kiddie pool, and there’s an onsite restaurant and lounge that serves up steak and seafood with a distinct Florida flare.

So come on -- the theme parks, golf courses, restaurants and shopping malls are ready. Whether you’re considering spending your Orlando vacation at Disney or just looking for a great place to relax in the sun and take in a dinner show and side trip, your WorldMark Orlando resort is perfectly located at the heart of all that is fun in Central Florida.
