Your Whistler Vacation – Nature's Playground is YOUR Playground

Experience your Whistler vacation in what must be one of Canada’s crown jewels. Whistler, BC is a one-of-a-kind destination for everyone to enjoy. Internationally famous and renowned for its reputation as a premier ski resort and most recently the Winter Olympics, Whistler also carries a lesser known reputation for its range of yearround activities. Located in the Coast Mountain Range at the base of two majestic mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, it is a virtual playground for children and adults alike.

A Whistler vacation in the spring and summer could arguably offer a greater variety of activities than the winter months for which it has gained such international notoriety. Once the snow melts, your opportunities for outdoor play are endless.

It beckons you to let loose your inner child and experience your vacation with wholehearted abandon. From the astonishing to the extreme, from the adventurous to the relaxed, Whistler has it all. Miles of cross country and downhill ski terrain transform into endless hiking and mountain bike trails.

If getting physical in the outdoors is your ideal getaway, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better location.

Come out and Play on your Whistler vacation!

What may well be Whistler’s second biggest draw, next to skiing, is mountain biking. Offering accessible terrain for all ability levels, a bike outing can become a family affair or a downhill adventure. Terrain ranges from the adrenalin pumping and highly technical singletrack to the more manageable and paved Valley trail.

If it’s hiking you’re after, you’ll be afforded equally diverse terrain. Ride the gondola to the top of Whistler Mountain for a free guided tour of 13 signature alpine hikes or stroll the miles of walking paths that connect throughout the village to the surrounding areas.

Be awed by nature on a bear viewing tour —– Whistler and Blackcomb are home to over 50 black bears so even without a tour you’re likely to encounter one on your own during a ride up the gondola or while playing a round of golf.

If golf is your idea of vacation, Whistler ranked number one as Canada’s best golf destination, according to Golf Digest magazine. The four championship golf courses (three in Whistler, one in the nearby city of Pemberton) offer spectacular mountain scenery, challenging courses, incredible food and frequent wildlife sightings.

Bringing the family along on this Whistler vacation? Visit the Adventure Zone for a playground experience like none other. Located at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, the Adventure Zone offers children batting cages, bungee trampolines, minigolf, the Westcoaster Luge, horse and pony rides, balloon slide, go karts and zipline – just to name a few!

The activities you can enjoy during your Whistler vacation are endless and bound to leave your family smiling - and exhausted. If your family requires more summertime adventure than mini-golf, the aerial sightseeing, ATV riding, river rafting, bungee jumping, zip lining and jet boat riding options are sure to leave them breathless. As if that’s not enough, the new adventure this summer is Rap Jumping – a face-forward, free-fall rappelling adventure that allows you to actually jump off Whistler Peak from 5,000 feet (1,554 m) above the valley. Not for the faint of heart!

If it’s time to catch your breath or perhaps a more relaxing vacation is what you seek, then rest assured - the area offers countless opportunities to Whistler vacationers. Take a dip in an authentic Scandinavian bath or spend time rejuvenating with a massage at one of the many excellent spas. Grab an ice cream cone and stroll through the European-inspired village, poke your head into the quaint shops or stop to take in a movie at the Village 8 Cinema. On a warm sunny day there are plenty of places for a picnic, numerous outdoor patio cafes and pubs providing an opportunity to watch the world go by or you can indulge in some quiet “you” time on your very own WorldMark unit deck. Adults in the group can learn the intricate craft of beer brewing and enjoy a tasting on a Whistler Brewing Company tour while the historical minded can drive down to the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre for an interactive introduction to Aboriginal art, history and First Nations crafts.

If your favorite thing to do on vacation is eat, you will be happy to discover the vast array of dining options available on your Whistler vacation sprinkled throughout the Village and surrounding areas. Options abound - everything from après ski (or après any activity!) pubs and local coffee shops to various ethnic and fine dining establishments.

Whistler Vacations: In the heart of it all or away from it all...

It seems Whistler’s lesser known reputation of a year-round vacation destination may come as a surprise to some, but vacationers have been in on this secret for years. Beloved by vacationers, Whistler offers two distinct timeshare rental experiences. Whether you choose to stay in the hub of it all at WorldMark Cascade Lodge (Ask about availability) in Whistler Village or away from it all at WorldMark Sundance (Ask about availability) in Creekside, your Whistler vacation is bound to be unforgettable.

Cascade lodge, with its stone pillars and peaked roofs, fits right into the European-styled Whistler village and welcomes you into the heart of this massive outdoor playground. With 42 compact (sleeps 4), one-bedroom units, fully equipped with the standard WorldMark amenities, you’ll find Cascade Lodge reflects the style of this mountain village right down to the stone fireplaces and cabin-like décor – giving you the feeling of a cozy remote getaway all while being within walking distance to everything the village has to offer.

"The great thing about Cascade Lodge is that you don’t need a car once you arrive. Park in the underground parking, unload your belongings and leave the car behind. You can easily walk to all the restaurants, sites and activities or just kick back at the largest outdoor pool in Whistler."
-- Resort Manager

In addition to the large pool area, you’ll find two outdoor spas, an indoor sauna and a fitness center.

Should you prefer to get away from the heart of things and enjoy a more peaceful Whistler vacation or perhaps you require the advantages of a larger unit, then Sundance is the resort for you! The 25 WorldMark units at this 42 unit mixed-use property include a range of sizes from the smaller one-bedroom (sleeps 4) to the much larger three-bedroom plus loft (sleeps 8 ) units, giving you the flexibility to travel with additional guests. Sundance, located less than three miles south of Cascade Lodge and Whistler Village, sits atop a hill in the more relaxed area of Creekside. The spacious units all face out over the valley offering spectacular views and your deck comes equipped with a gas barbeque just begging you to dine alfresco on a warm summer evening! The property may not have a pool but it does offer a spa with a view and a chance to get away from it all.

"Most vacationers who stay at Sundance don’t mind not having a pool, they expect to go out and enjoy Whistler – taking advantage of the parks, lakes and fantastic skiing or mountain biking." -- Resort Manager

Isn’t it time for your own Whistler play date? Some advanced planning and savvy tips will get you on your way. The Whistler resorts maintain nearly 100% occupancy from the start of American Thanksgiving weekend (when Whistler and Blackcomb open for the ski season) until the middle of April (when the mountain closes). The occupancy peaks again reaching nearly the same levels from late June through American Labor Day. If you’re planning your escape during those months, remember to book in advance.

If you prefer a less crowded visit or a last minute trip, remember this is an all season town, so come play in the spring and fall! Another helpful tip to keep in mind comes from the Resort Manager, "remember that the Canadian based resorts have to consider not only American holidays, but Canadian ones as well. Traveling on a holiday for either country can be busy." Whatever time of year you plan to visit, one thing’s for sure - Whistler’s playground is waiting for you!
